The Screen4Care project has entered into a Material Transfer and Data Agreement (MTDA) with University Hospital Brno (Czech Republic) and the University of Ferrara (UNIFE, Italy), establishing the formal basis for collaboration and participation in project activities. This agreement supports joint work with Kateřina Kozubík and the clinical and research teams at University Hospital Brno, under the scientific coordination and support of Prof. Alessandra Ferlini, Head of the Medical Genetics Unit at the UNIFE in Ferrara and Scientific Coordinator of Screen4Care.
Contribution to Early Detection of Rare Diseases
The collaboration enables University Hospital Brno to contribute samples and relevant data generated within approved clinical and research pathways to SCREEN4CARE research activities. These contributions will support the project’s objective of improving early identification of rare, treatable, and actionable genetic conditions in newborns. Genetic analyses will be performed within the Screen4Care infrastructure using the TREAT gene panel, ensuring that research activities are conducted in accordance with the project’s ethical approvals, regulatory obligations, and data protection framework.
A Framework for Secure and Responsible Collaboration
The MTDA provides a structured framework governing the transfer and use of materials and associated data, ensuring transparency, accountability, and compliance across participating institutions. Through this agreement, University Hospital Brno becomes integrated into Screen4Care’s collaborative research environment, benefiting from shared expertise and coordinated genomic analysis. This collaboration also lays the groundwork for potential future joint initiatives in newborn genomic screening and rare disease research, supporting long-term cooperation at both clinical and scientific levels.
Expanding European Cooperation in SCREEN4CARE
With the inclusion of University Hospital Brno, Screen4Care continues to strengthen its network of European partners working together to address challenges in rare disease diagnosis. Each new collaboration contributes to the project’s overarching goal of reducing diagnostic delays and improving outcomes for children and families affected by rare diseases throughout Europe.
The Screen4Care consortium is pleased to welcome University Hospital Brno as a Screen4Care collaborator and look forward to the scientific and clinical insights that will emerge from this partnership.
